What Is Age Play?

Age play is a definite kink or fetish but is not always associated with the BDSM community. Let’s take a closer look at age play, some myths, terms, and role play scenarios.

What is Age Play?

“Age play or ageplay is a form of role playing in which an individual acts or treats another as if they were a different age. Age play is role playing between adults, and involves consent from all parties. Portraying any age can be the goal of age play, from babies, to the elderly. Usually this involves someone pretending to be younger than they actually are, but more rarely can involve assuming an older role.” – Wikipedia

Even with definition, there are many myths and misunderstandings towards age play. Let’s break a few of these down and further explore age play and its participants.

3 Age Play Myths

  1. Age Play Always Involves Sex
Just like BDSM relationships, all are not sexual. Age play can be solely based on the power dynamic without any sexual interaction, but rather a sub dom relationship sans sex. Humiliation may also be part of the play.
  2. Real Children Are Involved
Age play is about the inner child of the adult participants; no actual children are involved. There is often a desire by the participants to act out or relive their childhood experiences.
  3. Age Players Have Latent Pedophilic Tendencies
No true. And just as the BDSM community has no tolerance for abuse; true age players do not stand for child abuse.

How Does Age Play Work?

In most cases, one player will pretend to be under the age of eighteen (baby/toddler, preteen, teenager) while the other will act as the adult (often an authority figure).

Age Play Role Plays

Usually there are only two participants; but in organized age play communities, group scenarios can be arranged for members. And some people are happy to be a voyeur to age play rather than be involved.

Popular role plays include adults playing the part of mommy/daddy, teacher/principal/coach, or doctor/nurse to someone in the role of a child.

BDSM play can be incorporated as well. Types of discipline and sexual activity depend on the age of the child’s role.
