What is Pet Play?
Pet play is a type of animal role play that may or may not involve sex. One or more of the participants will take the role of a pet animal (real or imaginary) and take on the mannerisms and behaviours of this animal. Their partner (or leader in a group context) will usually pretend to be the owner, trainer, or caretaker. If bdsm is part of the pet play, then the “animal person” is almost always playing the role of submissive. Humiliation of the submissive may also be a part of the scene. Most popular animal roles are that of dogs, cats, and horses; but I’ve seen pictures of people role playing cows, rabbits, and rats.
What’s Involved in Pet Play?
Pet play can involve not only behaving like animals, but also dressing up in costume. In a non-sexual relationship, this may just be about affection and creative acting. In a bdsm relationship, the sky’s the limit. The “animal” may be told where to sleep, when to eat, what to eat, how to behave, or how to perform. And there can be consequences and humiliations for disobedience. Many slave/owner partners enjoy pet play because it helps to reinforce their relationship.
Choosing an Animal
1. You may select an animal you most identify with. If you’re a meek submissive, you may want to choose a bunny; but if you’re someone who enjoys being trained over and over, a pony might be a good fit.
2. Your dominant will choose for you, as this is just another way of them controlling their submissive. The choice will depend on his/her level of domination and their own sexual preferences.
3. Some kinksters like to play a wide range of animals depending on the scene or partner they are with. This might happen if you don’t particularly identify with one animal or if you’re not in a committed bdsm relationship.
Pet Play Ideas
Bondage – roping and steering a “cow”
Verbal Restrictions- the “dog” may only bark or whimper as a means of communication
Tricks – teaching a “lion” to jump through a hoop
Training – teaching a “pony” to pull a cart
Feeding Rituals – “animals” must eat and drink out of pet dishes without hands or cutlery
Washroom Rituals – the “cat” must use a litter box
Toys – making the “puppy” play fetch
Begging – the “dog” must beg for his food
You get the idea, just use your imagination. Of course, with all bdsm activities, consent and safety are mandatory.
