Mummification: Extreme Bondage for Sexual Pleasure

Woman in Mummy Costume

For almost everyone, bondage play is part of sex sometimes. Even my sister, as monogamous and vanilla as I am slutty and kinky, bought a pair of fuzzy pink handcuffs for her hubby on Valentine’s Day!

Bondage is also a staple of sadomasochistic fetish practices. It’s the B in BDSM!

There are many ways to practice bondage including ancient, elegant Japanese rope arts like shibari and kinbaku.

Mummification is a form of extreme bondage, but it’s interchangeable with other fetish practices. Mummification is very specific. It involves being completely bound, like a mummy.

Most practitioners want to be tightly wrapped. The cocoon or incubating feeling is important, and the helplessness and vulnerability of the bound person is a way of enhancing complete trust in the other.

Dr. Anil Aggrawal defines mummification in his book, Forensic and Medico-legal Aspects of Sexual Crimes and Unusual Sexual Practices.

“An extreme form of bondage in which the person is wrapped from head to toe, much like a mummy, completely immobilizing him. Materials used may be clingfilm, cloth, bandages, rubber strips, duct tape, plaster bandages, bodybags, or straitjackets

The immobilized person may then be left bound in a state of effective sensory deprivation for a period of time or sensually stimulated in his state of bondage—before being released from his wrappings.”

Mummification is not something you should submit to or perform without serious training from someone experienced. It can be very dangerous. It’s fine to play light with a loosely rolled up sheet or linen. But a more serious approach requires extreme caution and know-how.

Practitioners use everything from clingfilm to duct tape to newspapers taped or roped to blankets to wet sheets to plaster strips.

Most beginners understand the mummy needs breathing holes. But many won’t be aware of other dangers and serious injury or even that death may result. Duct tape or Saran Wrap can trap oxygen—our whole body breathes. Locking all pores from oxygen or trapping sweat for even a short period can cause extreme skin rashes or brain damage.

Even nonadhesive material like a bed sheet can restrict blood flow and cause the mummy to go into a coma, or suffer from brain damage or circulatory problems including a heart attack. Mummification can cause body temperature problems such as being unable to cool down.

Other problems include not being able to un-mummy the mummy! It’s harder than you think to undo ClingWrap and it’s dangerous to cut through plaster.

If mummification practices are something you’re just curious about, they’re best approached with a light hand—it can be fun to restrain someone with a loosely rolled blanket.

If you love to be deprived of sensation, deeply humiliated, or practice extreme bondage, make sure you take the time to learn how to play safe from someone with experience.
