Whether you’re purchasing your first butt plug, clit stimulator, or bondage swing , special consideration when choosing a toy and special care after it is in use is important to prolonging your enjoyment and those you invite to share in the fun.
What I’m learning as I add to my treasure trove is that quality does matter. I relate it to fashion. A few key pieces that I can use for many occasions is better than a lot of items that don’t last or go out of style. Like a great article of clothing, a wonderful toy usually requires special care that the manufacturer recommends, or that you will come to know personally.
Although I don’t have any allergies or skin sensitivities, I do prefer toys that are made of silicone, plastic, or glass as these are least likely to bother those that do and won’t interrupt spontaneous toy time with a new lover. When I buy a new toy, I inspect it carefully to make sure all parts are present, and that it works when batteries are in. Keep all outside packaging for a time, just in case you need to return it, and follow pre-use recommendations for sanitizinng. And be careful to cover any electronic bits with a towel while near water – you don’t want to get zapped or break what you just spent a small fortune on.
I was told that using cheaper batteries (not brand name) are easier on toys because they are less likely to overheat your toy. It’s fine by me because as anyone who loves their toys knows it’s important to have a large supply of batteries on hand. Nothing worse than telling your lady about a great toy you want to use on her and then realizing the only batteries you have in it are worn out – anticipation fizzler. I like the idea of rechargeable toys, better for the environment and you.
Toys and lube go together, especially if you like a long extended session with your toys. Water-based lubes are your best bet because they won’t damage or have a chemical reaction to most toys or your lover; the only drawback is they do dry out the fastest. Like batteries, keep an extra supply on hand.
Don’t forget to clean your toys after every use. If a woman sees you throw that dildo back in the night table after its been up her ass she may wonder where it was before. Eww. We like to imagine we are the first, even when we know this is unlikely. If there are batteries, remove them before any contact with water. Follow instructions for cleaning treatment (soap, water, rubbing alcohol, specialty cleaner) and dry before storing.
I’m always surprised at the places people keep their ‘goodies’. I’ve been to people’s houses that store them in a kitchen drawer or under the bathroom sink (and some of these people have kids!) I take pride in my growing collection and bought a beautiful wooden chest that fits in my bedroom closet.
