Curious to Try Menophilia?
Menophilia is the sexual enjoyment gained via drinking and/or smelling menstrual, or period blood, and is a more common fetish than you might think.
A quick Google search will produce lots of Q&A pages filled mostly with men asking if it’s normal or okay to go down on a menstruating woman. The answers tend to vary, mostly based on personal preference or some social or religious mandate.
I’ve done my own menophilia research to bring to you the following list of frequently asked questions. I hope that it might help you to decide for yourself whether or not you want to give it a try.
Menophilia Questions Answered
Is a period blood fetish dangerous?
There are lots of opinions about how safe or unsafe it is to consume menstrual blood. The truth is, it’s not so much blood as it is the shed lining of a woman’s uterus, and it’s really not any more dangerous than anything else that comes out of a vagina.
It’s true that there are bacteria in it, but it’s not the scary type that will send you to the hospital. The entire vagina is home to lots of bacteria. It’s considered “good” bacteria because it helps keep things balanced and healthy.
Of course it’s a good idea to exercise the same cautions with menophilia as you would with any sexual activity. STDs abs STIs are spread through blood and other bodily fluids, so just make sure you and your partner are clean before you try anything. Also be mindful of any cuts in your mouth or bleeding gums, as these could increase your risk of contacting anything.
Is period sex gross?
That’s really up to you to decide.
I once had a boyfriend who would practically blow his load just from smelling my period blood. There’s a distinct odor to it for sure. It’s a little more pungent than the standard vaginal secretions, and I’m sure it tastes a bit stronger.
As for it being “gross” in a broader sense? No. There’s nothing gross or dirty about a woman’s period. There’s no shame in wanting to try tasting or smelling it… under consensual circumstances, of course. Some period fetishists love it so much they are even turned on by dirty panty liners.

Will my girlfriend enjoy menophilia?
Again, that’s something that only your girlfriend can decide. Some women feel a bit closed off during their periods, while others feel more aroused. And it can vary from month to month!
I find that if I don’t have awful cramps, I tend to feel more turned on because there’s stuff happening down there. It’s definitely something you’d want to have a conversation about if you’re really curious to try period sex.
What’s the best position to maximize my experience?
Due to a little thing called gravitational force, your girlfriend should sit on your face if you really want to get a good dose of her period blood. If that seems a little too hardcore, try eating her out while she’s on her back.
You might want to start slowly, by smelling and tasting some of her blood on your finger. Talk openly with your partner in order to discover what you’re both comfortable with. Consent and enjoyment is paramount, so don’t be afraid to express your kink for period sex.
