I’ve believed in ghosts ever since I was a young child going for overnight stays at camp. When the beautiful young women who were counsellors told ghost stories around the campfire, I would become so aroused, I sometimes sneaked off into the woods to masturbate. Somehow sex and ghosts have had a connection for me ever since.
Maybe it’s just wishful thinking, but I would love to have a succubus-type encounter one day, to be overtaken by a spiritual force that is greater, stronger than myself. I’ve always believed in ghosts and have actually felt the spirit of dead loved ones in times of distress. I love the idea of spectrophilia and think that the power of belief can make many extraordinary things happen, whether that’s in reality or just in one’s mind.
Filmmakers know that sex and ghosts are a compelling mix, whether a romantic couple is interrupted by a vengeful spirit or a lonely man finds love in a parallel universe. Though the spectrophiliac is more likely to long for an encounter that is highly sexual, and nothing like they have experienced with a mere mortal.
Let’s take a closer look at the ghost fetish and the various ways it might manifest.
What Is Spectrophilia?
Spectrophilia is a fetish that has a person sexually attracted to ghosts or spirits, or the sexual arousal of seeing their images in mirrors. It also involves alleged sexual encounters with ghosts.
Succubus and Incubus
A succubus is a demon or evil spirit who takes on a female human form to seduce men. Some ghost fetishists believe they can be transported to another dimension if they are visited and survive the experience with a succubus. It is also a belief that the possessed arrive to extract semen from their host to use to impregnate.
A woman may fantasize about an incubus, a demon that takes on the form of a human man who wishes to impregnate the woman he visits. Reports of these visits usually happen at night and awake the human from their sleep.
Reconnection with Loved Ones
Many people believe in being able to contact those they’ve lost. There is no shortage of mediums who claim that they can help you reconnect with deceased spouses, family and friends. There’s even a wiki on How to Talk to the Dead. Are these scams or just a useful tool to assuage one’s pain? It’s personal.
Grief is sometimes the impetus for this fetish, as a way to hold on to someone dear.
Beyond Sex
The fantasy can become more than just that. A UK woman claims to have had sex with a spirit on an airplane and then to get engaged to said spirit. She says she’s had over twenty paranormal lovers and that her latest “phantom fling” was her soulmate. Fiction or fantasy? People believe what they believe.
While you can find many films and books that explore this phenomena, there is no scientific evidence to prove these otherworldly demons are visiting bedrooms or airplane bathrooms.
Sleep Paralysis
Sleep paralysis happens when a person passes between the state of being awake and asleep. Some people who claim to have been visited by a succubus or incubus say they were also experiencing sleep paralysis, unable to move or speak. Hallucinations, which sometimes accompany sleep paralysis, may explain what is being experienced.

Fulfilling the Ghost Fantasy
With fantasy and fetish, half the fun is the imagination and what it is able to conjure up. There are many impossible kinks that can’t happen or are very unlikely to happen, often due to legal and safety issues, but that can still be played out in the imagination.
