What Is Vorarephilia?
Vorarephilia, from the Latin meaning “love of devouring,” is usually referred to as “vore.”
The technical definition of the word encompasses both the dominant and submissive, or the eater and the eaten, but in most fetish communities “vore” means the erotic desire to be devoured. Those turned on by the idea of doing the eating are more about the cannibal kink.
What Turns Vore Lovers On?
Vore fetishists generally (but not always) recognize their kink as playful, fantasy, myth, and cartoon. They may be turned on by fairy tales like Little Red Riding Hood, horror films or manga about devouring monsters, or the idea of being consumed.
How Far Can Vore Go?
Some people into vore are more literal and seek out the ultimate in submission, looking to be meat for a cannibal for their last hurrah. You may recall the German cannibal killer Armin Miewes, who pleaded not guilty after killing and eating a man he met on the cannibal sex chats online. His prey was fully consensual, and was in fact chosen from a selection of hopefuls!
Can Vore Fetish Be Safe?
Oddly enough, many vore lovers are disgusted by gore and blood. They are aroused by the idea of the consumption or by the idea of the sensations, but their fantasies have a very sanitized and playful aspect. They are turned on by the idea of being completely inside another human, for example, or being the product of a pregnancy, or being sucked up without any chewing.
Since vorarephilia is not possible to enact literally, at least not more than once, it is mostly a fetish of the imagination. It has to be indulged in erotic literature, graphic novels or manga forms, animated film, horror or science-fiction films, fairy tales, video games, role play, and BDSM fantasy play.
Fetishists get creative and cross over with furry and cosplay kinks, bondage and discipline, sadomasochism, and food kinks.
How Do Vorarephiles Satisfy their Kink?
Many vore aficionados report that virtual reality like video games or role play is quite satisfying. The eroticism is very playful and imaginative. In other words, most (but not all) have a boundary that distinguishes fantasy from reality. Given the option, if it was possible, of being devoured tonight by a wild animal or a dominant brunette, most would decline the wild animal option.
There are also kinky practices that allow being consumed in ways other than the digestive tract. Unbirthing and anal vore are about being partly swallowed by other orifices.
Some folks watch National Geographic specials that feature whales devouring smaller creatures, or other animals eating their prey. These are too gory for other vore lovers, who want cartoon animations of big mouths and round, full bellies.
Role play can take on many kinds of imagination play, from alien predators and prey to being surrounded by food or trussed up on the table. One man paid a dominatrix to “cook” him in a cardboard box oven.
There are lines of erotica and art devoted to wide open mouths. Many vorarephiles are turned on just by looking at a wide mouth, and sometimes very specifically by seeing the roof of the mouth and the uvula. Vore lovers call them mawshots.
Although some with vore fetish are disturbed by their kinks and seek professional help, most understand that they are simply manifesting very creative expressions of a common and basic sexual need: the desire to be consumed and connected to another.
