5 Kink Shopping Tips for Men

With the holidays just around the corner, you may be thinking of buying your girlfriend or lover something unexpected… or maybe she’s been hinting at exploring a new BDSM activity, and you want to surprise her.

My lover and I keep talking about expanding our toy collection… it hasn’t happened yet, but the conversations have brought up a host of thoughts on the idea of men shopping for sex accessories and props.

BDSM Shopping Tips for Men

  1. Start small. Before you invest in a sex machine or rack, know that it’s worth it. This means knowing that you have willing play partners. You may fantasize about tying women up in your dungeon, but unless this is already happening don’t go wild and spend thousands of dollars. Build slowly.
  2. Do the research. This especially applies to big-ticket items. A cheap bullet vibrator is okay to buy on the fly, but before you spend hundreds of dollars on the latest buzz toy, read reviews of similar products to weigh the pros and cons before investing.
  3. Watch porn and attend sex shows. These two avenues will introduce you to all sorts of toys and accessories you didn’t even know existed. I love adult expos like Sexapalooza for demonstrations and workshops that expand my kinky sexual repertoire.
  4. Know her size and tastes. This applies to lingerie shopping, as well as to any kind of toy or prop. It’s uncomfortable when you buy a woman something the wrong size, especially smaller. And if you buy something way out of her sexual wheelhouse, she might feel pressure and never want to go where you want her to.
  5. Shop online. I always worry when I go to my local sex store that someone I know will see me going in, or that I’ll run into my neighbor in the nipple clamps aisle. I’m not ashamed of my interests, but I am private about them. Shopping from the comfort of your home is a fun and exciting thing you can do as a couple.
