Robophilia: Robot Fetish and Related Kinks

Do you fantasize about robots? Are you turned on when watching robots in movies?

What Is Robophilia?

Robophilia is a word used to describe the robot fetish or robot kink. Not surprisingly, it means “love of robots.”

Some people experience sexual arousal, sexual pleasure, and psychological fulfillment from fantasizing about robots, reading about them or watching them in films, or from the idea of transforming into a robot.

The robot fetish is historically known as ASFR, which comes from an early Internet community, now defunct, alt.sex.fetish.robots. ASFRians is the way robot kink lovers initially referred to themselves.

There are different categories of robophilia, as with any fetish. For some, it is sexual attraction to robots, the idea of robots, people outfitted as robots, fantasy characters of robots, people who act like robots, and so on.

For others, it is sexual excitement from being a robot or becoming a robot.

What Is Robosexuality?

Robosexuality is a term that some robot fetishists have chosen to define or express their sexual orientation. Their sexual attraction to robots is important enough to them to define with a word, just as a sexual orientation for same-sex love would be homosexuality.

Robot Related Fetishes and Kinks

Robophilia as a Transformation Fetish

Robophilia is a transformation fetish for some people. It is all about the change from human to machine.

The Robot Fetish as BDSM

For some people, the robot kink is part of BDSM. Becoming a kind of sex doll, a submissive who aims to serve and please the dominant automatically, or who can be programmed to carry out specific sex acts, is what it’s all about for them. It is about depersonalization or the erasure of personality.

While this is part of the robot fetish for some, it is more common for the robot fetish to be connected to a fascination with technology or to transformation fetishes than for it to be about dominance and submission.

Robophilia as Objectophilia

Some people experience the robot fetish as a form of objectophilia. Just as some people feel that diverse objects such as concrete, bridges, towers, vacuum cleaners, chandeliers, and pizza have their own kind of emotional and sexual life, the humanoid object or anthropomorphic machine can have those qualities.

Some people literally fall in love with a particular robot, or they experience robophilia because they are objectophiles.

Robot Kink as Agalmatophilia

The robot fetish can also be a form of agalmatopholia, which is a fetish that encompasses different kinds of humanoid objects or dolls, such as dolls, statues, puppets, mannequins, and sculptures. A robot can be a kind of doll or statue.

People with agalmatophilia have a very specific preference for which form their fetish manifests. Mannequin love, for example, is seldom (but sometimes) transferable to statue or robot love. Those who feel a sexual attraction to robots will usually have a strong preference for robots and not for puppets or statues.

The Robot Fetish and Popular Culture

The robot kink is a product of its time, just as the yoga pants kink is! A pantyhose fetish could not have existed before nylon pantyhose were invented. Humans can develop sexual connections to anything and everything, and our interests, whether sexual or emotional or personal, follow various cultural trends.

Science fiction television and literature, fantasy in stories and cinema, sex dolls, virtual reality, video games, role playing fantasy games, robot toys, transhumanism, science and technology, graphic novels, manga and anime, and much more all contribute towards the ideas of robots, automation, and humanoid machines.

Because we are sexual beings, some of these are infused with sexuality and sexual themes. It makes perfect sense that some of us would develop a sexual curiosity towards robots and related themes, or have an outright robot fetish.

Robot Kinks and Transhumanism

Some robot fetishists today prefer the term technosexuals, emphasizing their specific interest in technology.

The idea of sexuality existing separately from biology and redefined by technology and fantasy is part of transhumanism from some. While we consider sexuality to be part of evolution and part of our biological needs, in transhumanism, both as a philosophy and as a science, we can redesign our sexuality in ways that connect with virtual reality, artificial intelligence, technology, and machines.

A fascination with science and technology, or faith in its potential, is sometimes at the heart of this complex philosophy. For others, it is all about the power to create our own reality, including in how we relate, connect, and reproduce. For some, there is a belief that science fiction is reality, and anything that exists is necessarily “natural.”

There is no chasm between imaginary or artificial and natural. Just as it is a positive thing to use medicine to cure a disease or something like eyeglasses to improve our eyesight, using technology to adapt, change or improve our experiences, including sexual experiences, is desirable.

Most transhumanist thinkers are not thinking about sex or robot fetishes as they explore the boundaries and potential of humans and technology. But some are, and for them, technosexuality makes natural sense.

Build Your Own Sex Dream

For some robot fetishists, the robot idea is all about designing your own sex toy, to the exact specifications of your desire, with your own preferences, from size to hair color to shape of nipples or penis.

While this is only realistic for rich people, it’s actually a fantasy that appeals to many people, and there are lots of techno-erotica stories or robot fetish fantasies centered on this theme.

Do Sex Toy Robots Exist?

Yes, there are sex toy robots for your robot fetish. They are very expensive.

Robot fetish dolls are designed much the same as sex dolls. They are designed to look as genuinely human as possible, rather than looking like robots.

For some people with a robot fetish, it is the “robotic” look that appeals, and so these sex dolls are not good investments for them. For others, it is the technological marvel of resembling a human sexual partner and having artificial intelligence as well.

The robot fetish dolls are designed to warm up and cool down, to show emotional facial expressions, to talk, moan, and scream with pleasure, and to move their heads, hands, arms and feet.
