Puppy Play: 16 Ideas for Dogs and Puppies in BDSM

What Is Puppy Play?

Puppy play is a kink or fetish where people take on the characteristics of a puppy or dog, or of the dog’s handler or owner. It is a form of animal roleplay, and can also be part of cosplay, leather culture, role play, entertainment, and/or BDSM.

Puppy play has nothing to do with being attracted to dogs or animals, as it is sometimes confused with or criticized. Rather, it is the desire to identify with puppies or dogs, and mimic their characteristics and their relationship with their owner or handler.

Most puppy play is cosplay, with a fun and lighthearted spirit. As with Littles, who feel an enormous freedom and stress relief through age regression to childhood, puppy play can bring a sense of freedom from responsibilities, and a spontaneous and affectionate flavor to the daily grind.

For some, puppy play is not inherently sexual. It is a form of play that is not attached to sexual desires. It is a form of theater, make-believe, or dress-up, usually called cosplay.

For others, it is a kink of its own, and those who enjoy puppy play find sexual and psychological pleasure and fulfillment that way.

For others still, puppy play is an expression of wider kinks or fetishes. For example, it is very common to have puppy play inside of leather subcultures, as a variation for the aesthetic of leather and expression of the leather fetish.

Puppy play is also part of BDSM for many, because the puppy and handler are in a power exchange relationship. It can be one expression of dominance and submission, or the only one.

Pup play can be a lighter kind of BDSM for those who aren’t interested in what they see as hardcore BDSM practices. Puppy play is a more playful kind of dominance and submission, with the dominant in a caregiver role.
